Dough
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 cup milk warmed
- ¼ cup butter melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ cup raisins
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and warm milk. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
Add melted butter, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and raisins. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a baking sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
For the cross, mix flour and water to make a paste. Pipe a cross on top of each bun.
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with warmed apricot jam while still hot. Let cool on a wire rack.
