Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups split peas
  • 1 ham bone or 1 cup diced ham
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 stalks celery chopped
  • 1 teaspoon thyme dried
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the split peas under cold water.
  2. 2. In a large pot, combine all ingredients except salt and pepper.
  3. 3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. 4. Remove the ham bone, chop any meat, and return to the pot. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
